Civil Society- Visit to St Oswalds, Filey
On the 27th October we had a good get together for the ‘Civil’ outing with 25 people enjoying a visit to St Oswald's Church at Filey.
Margaret Hicks-Clarke, husband John & Catherine Welsh, told us about this beautiful 12th century church built by the Bridlington Augustinian friars.
This year (2025) is the centenary of the Filey fishing disaster when the steam drifter ‘Research’ sank with a crew of nine men losing their lives. Eight of them from Filey, five belonging to one family.
It was a very interesting and pleasurable afternoon enjoyed by all, ending with refreshments and lots of interesting chat.
