Bridlington and District Civic Society

The Bridlington and District Civic Society was first established in 1972. For over 50 years our activities have focused on 'placemaking'. We seek to improve the built and natural environment through campaigning and debate, all with a view to enhance the quality of life in our area of benefit for current and future generations.
Being part of the civic movement, the Society has created space and opportunities for public debate to take place on local matters. We have been the public voice for an extensive range of issues, some highly controversial, that have impacted Bridlington and district over the decades. These issues include: Bridlington's tallest tower block 'Ebor Flats' receiving planning permission; a proposed camp site at Danes Dyke; a proposed amusement park on the headland near Sewerby; the demolition of 'Leisure World'; and the redevelopment of Bridlington Spa.
Our objectives:
- To stimulate public interest in Bridlington and its surroundings (our 'Area of Benefit').
- To encourage and promote high standards of town planning and architecture.
- To be proactive in securing the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest.
Our Area of Benefit includes multiple parishes across East Riding of Yorkshire:

- the town of Bridlington
- rural parishes of Barmston
- Bempton
- Boynton
- Burton Agnes
- Burton Fleming
- Carnaby
- Flamborough
- Grindale
- Rudston
- Thwing
- Wold Newton.
Bridlington also has designated conservation areas. You can view the most up to date information on Bridlington's conservation areas via the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Planning Constraints Map.
