Speaker Meeting Report: David Firth on the Flamborough Waterworks

David and Lindsey Firth delighted the Society with a talk on their ambitious refurbishment project- the Flamborough Waterworks. They deservedly won the IStructE Yorkshire Hub awards 2025 - Best overall project award, in celebration of the waterworks' transformation and innovative design.
This was an extremely interesting talk telling us about the transformation from a waterworks building including a Well and Reservoir which is now an amazing Passivhaus build. Passivhaus is a building standard aimed at achieving high energy efficiency and thermal comfort, as a result significantly reducig a building's carbon footprint- very impressive!

The audience had nothing but praise for these two. There was a lot of hard work, hoops they had to jump through, frustrations and costs involved in this project, but it has certainly paid off. Well done to David and Lindsey!
